As is the case with any great wine region, it is the confluence of topography, soils and climate that
make the Alexander Valley appellation unique. Contrary to the name, the Alexander Valley region is
diverse; with rolling hills, protected valleys, rocky hillsides, riverbeds, flatlands and bench lands, all
with their own individual microclimates.
Stonestreet’s vineyards are found in two distinct growing regions within the Alexander Valley American
Viticultural Area (AVA): Alexander Valley proper and Alexander Mountain Estate. The terroir of the
mountain is so different from that of the valley that a proposal for a separate Alexander Mountain Estate
AVA is before the US government.
