Tasting Notes:
"Struggling to grow in terrain 1,300 feet above sea level, the grapes for this Black Cougar Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon developed concentrated blackberry and plum flavors. On the nose, look for hints of wood and smoke. The palate of this full-bodied, dark-colored wine offers up concentrated blueberry and plum fruit. Tannins in this third vintage are softer than in the previous two, and lead up to a long, compelling finish." - Graham Weerts, Winemaker
The sole source of fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon is Black Cougar Ridge-a cascading, two-sided ridge on our Alexander Mountain Estate overlooking the Alexander Valley. Black Cougar's extreme 15-to-30 degree slopes boast deep, rocky volcanic soil covered by rich red topsoil. We selected fruit for this wine only from black Cougar's southwest ridge, which produces more intense Cabernet Sauvignon because it has extended exposure to the sun.
