"The dark, claret color and concentrated plum and black fruit flavors of this Cabernet Sauvignon exemplify the concentration of fruit grown on our Cougar Ridge vineyard 1,300 feet above sea level. Struggling to grow on steep terrain, the grapes developed a deep purple color and earthy nose. On the palate, layers of chocolate, black raspberry and cedar are supported by rich tannins. The finish is long and powerful." - Graham Weerts, Winemaker
Vintage:
The 2000 vintage on Alexander Mountain Estate out preformed many of the neighbors
who reside on the Alexander Valley floor. Bud break began early April and the
vineyard escaped the early seasonal frost damage due to high elevation and the
southwest sun exposure vineyard direction. June and July showed promise with gentle
daytime highs resulting in slow development and even ripening. September arrived with
cool, wet weather pushing our vineyard team to delay harvest until October. The risky
result, we pushed the Black Cougar Ridge grapes to higher notes of intensity through
extended hang time.
